Ed Scalley

Instructional Designer · eLearning Developer · Learning & Development

I design training that changes what people do on the job. My work spans interactive eLearning and software simulations, full onboarding programs, and live sessions, and I measure all of it with real learner data.

Unlocking Strong Passwords

Security-awareness microlearning for employees. It uses quick knowledge checks and a drag-and-drop strong-vs-weak sorting activity instead of a policy document.

Quality Controller

A fast-paced sorting game that trains quality inspection on a production line. My instructor asked to use it as a model for future classes.

Defect Zero

A choose-your-path story where every decision has consequences. I planned it with a full branching flowchart and storyboard before building it.

About

From the training floor to learning design

I've spent more than ten years helping people learn tools and processes on the job. I've worked as a training coordinator in wireless distribution, a product-training developer for enterprise phone systems, and a financial literacy trainer at a public university, where I delivered 30+ live and virtual sessions and grew program participation by 20%.

I hold an MS in Learning Technologies & Design from the University of Missouri (3.92 GPA, High Distinction) and a BS in Business Communication from Old Dominion University.

How I work

  • Start with performance. I ask what people need to do differently before deciding what to build.
  • Practice over presentation. I favor simulations, scenarios, and role-plays over click-next slides.
  • Prototype early, test with real learners. Then I iterate based on what the data shows.
  • Built for everyone. Clear writing, readable design, and accessible interactions.
